You can also choose a looser version, skipping the knot: cover your head with the scarf, then wrap its lower corners alternately around your neck, leaving more room—the result is a more sophisticated option known, for example, from 1980s fashion.
Bandana, with the top of the head covered and tied at the back: if any way of wearing a scarf on the head can rival the classic tie under the chin in popularity, it is probably the bandana style.
