Wallpaper in the kitchen—is it possible? Wall Art kitchen wallpapers

One of the questions customers ask most often is whether wallpaper can be installed in the kitchen? Is it feasible, or will it get dirty? How should it be cleaned after splashes, and how resistant is the wallpaper to heat near the cooker?

Together with our partner, Halupczok, we have prepared a collection of inspiration and practical information about using wallpaper in the kitchen.

Until recently, the only way to install a colourful print—mainly in the space between kitchen cabinets—was to use Lacobel glass or simply cover the selected kitchen wallpaper with a sheet of glass. However, customers often complained that the graphic almost always fogged up on the other side, or that the glass became dirty on the inside and could not be accessed. As a result, they were discouraged from installing kitchen wallpaper, and ordinary tiles were installed on the wall instead.

Wallpaper resistant to cleaning and water

However, the situation has changed dramatically recently with the introduction of dedicated solutions and materials that meet the highest standards of quality and durability.

One of them is EXTREME: a self-adhesive laminated vinyl that is 100% waterproof and resistant to washing and scrubbing with chemical agents, even with the abrasive side of a sponge. With laminated kitchen wallpaper, you can easily remove stains from grease, ketchup, sauces and even spilled soup. Grease stains can be washed off this wallpaper just as they can from tiles. Vinyl does not react with water or chemicals, and even marker stains can be removed with solvent.

We use this material in the wet zone and the so-called cooking zone—in other words, areas most exposed to damage, dirt and high temperatures.

Self-adhesive wallpaper is made of 100% vinyl, which is protected after printing with an additional layer of vinyl laminate during production. As a result, the wallpaper does not require additional protection with either glass or Lacobel. 

Thanks to the use of dot adhesive with low initial adhesion, the wallpaper d is extremely easy to apply. It can be lifted and repositioned repeatedly on the surface without air bubbles, creases or similar issues. After 24 hours, once the wallpaper has been applied and pressed against the surface, the adhesive contained in microcapsules is released and the proper process—adhesion, or bonding the wallpaper to the surface—takes place.

The self-adhesive material adheres perfectly to the surface and is resistant to high temperatures, so you can cook without worrying about melting or damage—not only on induction or electric cookers.

Removing the wallpaper is just as easy as applying it. Simply pull the material from a corner and remove the wallpaper in one piece, without soaking, sanding or removing adhesive residue.

The surface for installing self-adhesive wallpaper should be smooth, primed twice with a deep-penetrating primer such as Ceresit CT17—for walls—dust-free and degreased.

The material is 100% opaque, meaning that you can install light-coloured wallpaper on a dark wall without anything showing through.

Laminated self-adhesive vinyl can be installed in the kitchen directly on a wall, Lacobel, glass, another smooth wallpaper, tiles, laminated or lacquered furniture board.  Any smooth surface is suitable for application—your imagination is the only limit!

Other uses for self-adhesive vinyl 

Returning to the subject of self-adhesive vinyl, which is 100% waterproof and resistant to washing and scrubbing with chemical agents, it can also be used on kitchen cabinet fronts, a dining table, a coffee table or concealed doors.
